1. Which job it does. Happenstance, Village and Clay find people. Dex, Mesh, folk and Attio keep a record of them. Boomerang runs introductions for a team. A tool from the second group will not answer who can introduce me to someone at Stripe, and a tool from the first will not remind you of a birthday.
2. Who fills in the record. For the keep-in-touch tools this decides whether the tool survives month three. Dex, Mesh and folk sync a capped slice of LinkedIn and your inbox. Attio captures email and calendar. Happenstance reads the full history of the accounts you connect and builds the graph from what already happened, so there is nothing to maintain.
3. Whether the free plan is a plan. Happenstance is free with usage limits. Mesh is free to 1,000 connections and Attio to three seats. Clay is free for 500 actions a month. Dex and folk have trials only, and Boomerang has no free or individual plan.
4. What it reads about you. Every tool here reads some of your mail. Ask whether it reads headers or content and who else can see the result. Happenstance reads email as headers only, and each person's connections are visible to them, their friends and their groups.
