Happenstance vs Boomerang

Boomerang runs a revenue team's intro motion from the signal to the booked meeting. Happenstance answers the question that motion starts with, and one person can start it free.

The short version

Boomerang, if a B2B sales org wants warm intro orchestration run for the revenue team; Happenstance, if you want to find the path yourself, starting free as one person and pooling a team in a group. Boomerang maps four company pillars, the team, its customers, its board and advisors, its partners, then fires on a signal like a champion changing jobs, drafts the ask in the connector's voice and reports the booked meeting. It publishes no price and has no individual plan. Happenstance searches the seven accounts each person connects and answers plain-English questions, and 500,000+ people use it.

Boomerang details from getboomerang.ai public pages, including its 2026 relationship intelligence buyer's guide and its own AI information page.

Choose Happenstance if

  • You want to ask who you know and get an answer, without a demo
  • You're one person, or a team that wants pooled search without seats
  • The paths you need run through personal accounts, meetings and social follows, not company systems
  • You want a published price, and a free plan that's the whole product
  • The answer should be available in ChatGPT, Claude or your own code

Consider Boomerang only if

  • A revenue team runs intros as a program against a named account list
  • Signals should trigger the ask: intent surges, champion job changes, executive moves
  • The request has to be drafted in a connector's voice and routed through Slack, Salesforce, Outreach or Gong
  • Leadership wants closed-loop reporting from path to booked meeting
  • Connector protection matters: cadence caps, channel preferences, deal-size minimums

What each of them publishes, and what each one does

Happenstance publishes a price, a user count and an attestation level; Boomerang publishes a demo request and a buyer's guide. The capability rows split by stage: Happenstance finds the path, and Boomerang runs the motion on top of it.

Finding the path and running the ask are different jobs

These are two stages of the same job, and almost every argument between the products comes from treating them as one. The search stage answers a question: who do we know at this company, how well, and through whom. The orchestration stage takes a known path and turns it into a booked meeting: the ask written the way the connector would write it, sent through the channel that connector prefers, chased if nothing happens, marked closed when the meeting lands, and counted at the end of the quarter.

Boomerang is very deliberately the second stage. Its own materials put the pipeline in order (a signal fires, the warmest path is surfaced, the request is drafted, the loop closes) and its case study with Armis claims 26,000 warm intro paths created and 1,400 hours of manual research removed in the first year. Those are program numbers, and they describe a program: a named account list, a team working it, and someone reporting on it.

The catch is that the second stage is only worth buying when the first stage already returned something. A team that has never searched its pooled network doesn't know whether it has forty warm paths into its target list or four hundred. A free Happenstance group answers that, and the answer is worth having whether or not the team later signs an orchestration contract.

Where each graph comes from

Boomerang builds from what the company can reach: the reps and executives on staff, the customers under contract, the board, investors and advisors around the table, and the partners in the ecosystem. It's a strong shape for account coverage, because those four pillars are exactly the people with reasons to help a company sell. The same network is also an asset the company can use. It exists once the company deploys it, it maps onto the company's target accounts, and it goes away when the contract does.

Happenstance builds from what one person can reach. Each member connects up to seven sources, Gmail, Outlook, Google Calendar, Google Contacts, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram, and the graph is the union of what those accounts recorded: who they wrote to and heard back from, who they sat in a meeting with, who they follow, who is in their phone. A group pools those graphs without anyone buying a seat, and each person's connections stay searchable only by them, their friends and their groups.

An example of the answer this question returns. The people and the counts are illustrative; what a search returns depends on the accounts each person has connected.Three people who run engineering teams at Ramp, each with the colleague who knows them. The question was typed, not triggered by a signal on a target list.

The practical difference shows up in who the paths run through. Company pillars find the customer who used to work at the target account. Personal accounts find the college roommate, the founder who writes to you from a personal address, the person you trade Twitter replies with. Either one counts as warm. Only one of them is in a system the company deployed.

What Boomerang adds after the search

It runs a cadence. Happenstance answers when asked and then it is quiet. A team that needs asking discipline enforced across twenty reps needs software that enforces it, and Boomerang's sequences and follow-up automation are that software.

It fires on signals. Happenstance surfaces a path when you ask for one. Boomerang surfaces one when a champion changes jobs, intent surges or an executive moves, and a motion defined as reacting to an event within a day is built on those triggers.

It lives in the revenue stack. Happenstance reaches other tools through its API, MCP server and CLI. Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, Gong and Slack are where a sales org already works, and Boomerang routes the ask into them.

It reports. Closed-loop attribution from a path to a booked meeting is what makes an intro program defensible in a board deck, and Boomerang counts it.

Boomerang is also candid about its own edges: by its own account it isn't a curated external database and not a workflow builder. If the gap you are trying to close is data you don't have rather than motion you aren't running, neither product is the answer, and our warm introduction software guide covers the wider set.

Running Happenstance alongside Boomerang

What you keep. Everything, if you already run Boomerang. Adding Happenstance changes nothing in the CRM, moves no data between the two and costs nothing on the free plan. The orchestration keeps operating against the account list; the search layer sits beside it for the questions that aren't about an account.

What Happenstance adds. The people the four pillars miss, and the people who never had a seat: the advisor who isn't under contract, the founder in a portfolio, the ex-colleague in someone's phone. It also adds the questions that are not sales questions, because the same graph answers a hiring search, a fundraise, or a founder trying to reach one specific person.

Going the other way. If your team is evaluating orchestration and has not yet proved there are paths to orchestrate, run the free search first and count them. If the count is thin, an expensive motion on top of a thin graph will stay thin. If it's large, you will walk into the demo knowing what the program is worth and what it should cost. Pool your team in a free group and ask it one question.

I don't know how Happenstance is tailoring their AI but it is really freaking good.

What Happenstance reads, and who can search it

Email is read as headers only. Message content and attachments never reach our servers. Yes. Your connections are searchable only by you, the friends you accept, and the groups you join, and sharing is always mutual. Your public profile shows a constellation of named people you know by default, which you can turn off anytime. We never share, sell, or use your data to train AI models. Happenstance is SOC 2 certified and DTI Trust Level 2; the full list of what is stored and for how long is on the security page.

Frequently asked questions

The difference

What's the difference between Happenstance and Boomerang?

Finding the path against working it. Happenstance answers who you and your group know, across seven connected sources, in plain English, free. Boomerang assembles a company's extended network and runs the introduction motion on top of it: signal alerts, an ask drafted in the connector's voice, routing through Slack and the CRM, and reporting through to a booked meeting. One is a question box for a person; the other is a program for a revenue team.

What does Boomerang do?

By its own description it's the warm-intro orchestration layer for B2B sales: it maps warm paths from the team, customers, board, investors, advisors and partners into a list of priority accounts, and when a signal fires (an intent surge, a champion changing jobs, an executive move) it surfaces the warmest path and drafts the intro request. Its named products are Path to Power, Champion Tracking and Buying Group Intelligence.

Is Happenstance a Boomerang alternative?

For the search half, yes, and for a great many readers the search half is the whole job. Cadence enforcement, closed-loop reporting and an org-wide intro program run against hundreds of accounts are Boomerang's, and a sales org that needs those runs Boomerang beside the search.

Pricing

How much does Boomerang cost?

Boomerang doesn't publish prices. There's no pricing page and the call to action is a demo request. Its own 2026 buyer's guide carries a directional estimate of $15,000 to $25,000 a year for a typical ten-rep team, which is the vendor's own figure rather than a quote.

Is Happenstance cheaper than Boomerang?

Happenstance is free, and Pro is $30 a month or $24 a month billed yearly. Boomerang is sold to a company through a demo, with no individual or free tier and no published price.

Is Happenstance free, or is it a trial?

Free, and not a trial. The free plan is the whole product, Sidedoor included, with unlimited connected accounts, friends and groups. The limits are on chat usage and on web searches beyond your network, and Pro raises them. No credit card.

Sales teams

Can one sales rep use Boomerang?

Not on their own. Boomerang states an ideal customer of B2B SaaS and enterprise sales teams with at least $30k average contract value, a customer base with active champions and an engaged board or advisor network. A rep who wants to find warm paths this week signs up for Happenstance instead, free.

Can a sales team pool its network in Happenstance?

Yes. A group pools every member's connected accounts into one graph any member can search, and each person's connections stay searchable only by them, their friends and their groups. Groups are free and unlimited, so the reps, the founders, the advisors and the investors can sit in one group without anyone buying a seat. The largest groups make 380,000+ people searchable.

Can I use Boomerang and Happenstance together?

Yes, and Boomerang's own published comparison content recommends the stack: it describes Happenstance as a strong primary tool for search-driven work and says many of its customers run both, Happenstance for individual founder and leader search, Boomerang for the team-wide motion against priority accounts. Nothing syncs between them. You search one and run the motion in the other.

Workflow

Does Happenstance draft and send intro requests?

It drafts the request for you to send yourself. Writing in the connector's voice, routing the ask through Slack or a CRM, chasing a follow-up and closing the loop when a meeting books are Boomerang's orchestration features, and they're the reason a revenue team buys one.

Does Happenstance alert me when someone changes jobs?

Happenstance answers a question when you ask it, and every profile is enriched so a person's current title and company show in the result. Signal alerts on champion job changes, intent surges and executive moves are Boomerang's Champion Tracking product.
