Happenstance vs Vieu
Vieu maps a company's warmest path into the accounts it wants to sell to. Happenstance searches the accounts one person connects, and any group they pool, free.
By Jerry Feng, Growth at Happenstance. Updated September 1, 2026.
The short version
Vieu, if an enterprise GTM team wants a business graph assembled from CRM, email, Slack and public data with a sales team to deploy it; Happenstance, if one person wants the warmest path from their own seven connected sources, or a group wants it pooled, free. Vieu counts its graph at 4 billion nodes from 30+ sources, public internet data, tenant CRM, email and Slack, plus LinkedIn exports, and sells it from Series A to the Fortune 50 with no published price and no individual signup. Happenstance builds only from the accounts each person connects and ranks paths by what happened between two people. 500,000+ people use it.

Choose Happenstance if
- You want to sign up and search yourself, without a demo request
- Every path should rest on something that happened between two people
- Your strongest connections sit in calendars, Google Contacts, Twitter and Instagram
- A team, its advisors and its investors should pool networks with nobody buying a seat
- You want a published price, and a free plan that's the whole product
Consider Vieu only if
- A revenue org needs coverage of accounts nobody on the team has met yet
- The graph has to exist before anyone connects a personal account
- Buying-committee multi-threading and account coverage tracking are the workflow
- Salesforce, HubSpot and Slack are where the answer has to appear
- Procurement can price a platform fee plus outcome-based terms
The two products in numbers
Vieu publishes a great deal about its graph and nothing about its price. Happenstance publishes the price, the security attestation and a graph built only from what each person connects.

Vieu infers relationships, Happenstance records them
Vieu is explicit that its graph is inferred and verified, and the inference is the interesting half. Three years at the same employer, a shared board seat, a co-authored paper. Each of those makes a relationship more likely than chance, and at 14 billion edges the aggregate is a real asset: coverage of companies where nobody on your team has ever sent an email.
The cost of inference is confidence at the individual level. A company of nine thousand people isn't a room where everyone met, and an edge built on overlap says two people could have known each other, not that they did. Vieu's provenance feature answers that directly: it lets a seller check what the edge is made of before spending the relationship.
Happenstance builds from the other end. Every path it proposes comes from something recorded between two people in an account someone connected: a thread that got a reply, a meeting that was on both calendars, a number saved in a phone, a follow that goes both ways. Strength is ranked from the same evidence. The graph is smaller, and every edge in it is a fact about a person you or someone in your group already knows.
Who gets to run the search
Vieu's graph belongs to the tenant. The company licenses it, the data is scoped to that company, and the value accrues to account coverage on the company's target list. That's the correct design for enterprise sales and it has a consequence: a person can't use it. There's no signup, no free tier and no plan for one seller, one founder or one recruiter. When the contract ends, the searching ends.
Happenstance is the opposite arrangement. The graph belongs to the person. You connect your own accounts, your connections stay searchable only by you, the friends you accept and the groups you join, and the search works whether you are alone or pooled with two hundred other people. A team gets the pooled version by making a group, which is free, and the advisors and investors who would never be issued a seat can join the same group.

The name beside each result is the difference a buyer feels fastest. A graph built to cover every account will usually return something for every account. A graph built from your own connections will sometimes return nothing, and the nothing is useful: it's the signal to stop working the warm angle and pick a different route in.
Where Vieu is worth the demo
Coverage on day one. Happenstance's map grows from the accounts each person connects and each group member who joins. Vieu hands a sales org a map of an entire market before a single rep has connected anything.
The account is the unit. Happenstance answers about people, one question at a time. Coverage scoring across a target list, multi-threading a buying committee and tracking which accounts have no path are account-shaped features, and they're Vieu's.
It lives in the revenue stack. Happenstance is SOC 2 certified with DTI Trust Level 2, and it reaches other tools through its API, MCP server and CLI. Salesforce and HubSpot integration, Slack, and the legal surface a Fortune 500 procurement process expects are what Vieu sells.
Both work from an assistant. Vieu ships an MCP-native integration in beta for Claude, ChatGPT and Perplexity. Happenstance ships an MCP server, a ChatGPT app, a public API and a CLI on the free plan. If asking an assistant is how you want to work, both companies built for it, and only one of them lets you try it without a contract.
Using Vieu for the accounts and Happenstance for the people
What you keep. An org already running Vieu keeps its account coverage, its CRM workflow and its tenant graph. Nothing in Happenstance overlaps with those and nothing moves between the two systems.
What Happenstance adds. The half of the network a company graph does not hold: the calendar history each person carried in from a previous job, the Google Contacts and social follows, and the advisors, investors and portfolio founders who have no seat anywhere. It also adds the questions that aren't account questions, since the same group answers a hiring search or a fundraise.
Where a switch makes sense. For everyone Vieu is not sold to: a founder, a recruiter, a solo seller, a small team, anyone who wants the answer before they want a contract. You lose the enterprise graph and the account coverage view. You gain a graph made of relationships you can name, on a plan that costs nothing. Connect an account and ask it something.
“The real power lives in the actual network of your network. That's why Happenstance is so good.”

Whose data the graph is made of
Email is read as headers only. Message content and attachments never reach our servers. Yes. Your connections are searchable only by you, the friends you accept, and the groups you join, and sharing is always mutual. Your public profile shows a constellation of named people you know by default, which you can turn off anytime. We never share, sell, or use your data to train AI models. Happenstance is SOC 2 certified and DTI Trust Level 2; the full list of what is stored and for how long is on the security page.
Frequently asked questions
The difference
What's the difference between Happenstance and Vieu?
Whose network is being searched, and who's allowed to search it. Vieu builds one large graph for a company from public data, its tenant systems and imported connections, then shows a sales team the warmest path into an account on its target list. Happenstance builds a graph from the accounts each person connects and answers plain-English questions for that person and any group they join. Vieu is bought by an organization; Happenstance is started by a person, free.
What's Vieu's Business Graph?
Vieu's own description is a map of business relationships across more than 30 live data sources, which it counts at 4 billion nodes and 14 billion edges, in four buckets: user-contributed connection imports, tenant enterprise data from CRM, email, Slack and HR tools, public internet data, and specialist signals such as funding, SEC filings and news. It says every signal carries provenance back to its source, and that one tenant's data doesn't enter another's graph.
Are Vieu's relationships real relationships?
Some are, and Vieu labels the graph as inferred and verified. The inferred edges come from observable overlap: shared work history, co-authored research, joint ventures, board affiliations. That's genuine coverage, and it's also a hypothesis about a relationship rather than evidence of one. Happenstance only proposes a path where something happened between the two people, an answered thread, a meeting, a saved connection, a follow.
Pricing
How much does Vieu cost?
Vieu does not publish pricing. There's no pricing page on its site and the call to action is a demo request. Press coverage of its 2026 launch describes a baseline platform fee for access to the graph plus outcome-based pricing tied to specific sales, recruiting or fundraising initiatives.
Is there a free alternative to Vieu?
Happenstance is free, and the free plan is the whole product, Sidedoor included, with unlimited connected accounts, friends and groups, and usage limits on chat and on web searches beyond your network. Pro at $30 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly, raises those limits. Vieu is the one that covers companies nobody on the team has a connection to.
Does a team pay per seat on Happenstance?
No. Groups are free and unlimited, and a group pools every member's connected accounts into one graph any member can search. A ten-person sales team, its advisors and its investors can sit in the same group without anyone paying for a seat.
Access and teams
Can an individual sign up for Vieu?
No. Vieu sells to organizations and gates access behind a demo request, with no individual plan and no free tier. A seller, founder or recruiter who wants to search their own network today signs up for Happenstance instead.
Can a sales team use Happenstance instead of Vieu?
For finding who on the team knows someone at a target account, yes, through a free group that pools every member's connected accounts. Account coverage scoring across a named target list, buying-committee multi-threading and CRM-embedded workflow are Vieu's, and they're what a revenue org pays it for.
Can I use Vieu and Happenstance together?
Yes, and they answer different halves of the same question. Vieu covers the accounts the company is selling into, including people nobody on the team has met. Happenstance covers the people your team, your advisors and your investors know, across sources a company deployment does not touch. Nothing syncs between them, and the second one is free.
Sources and search
Which connects more of my own accounts?
Happenstance: Gmail, Outlook, Google Calendar, Google Contacts, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram, seven in total. Vieu integrates Salesforce, HubSpot, Outlook, Gmail and Slack, and takes LinkedIn connection exports; its strength is the external graph rather than your personal accounts. Calendar, Google Contacts and social follows are where a large share of warm paths live.
Can Happenstance find a path into a company nobody knows?
It tells you when there isn't one, then searches the web beyond your network to find the person you'd need to reach. A path appears only where something happened between two people; overlapping years at the same company don't make one.
AI assistants
Does Vieu have an MCP server?
Yes, in beta. Vieu describes it as MCP-native, working with Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity and other MCP hosts that support remote connections over OAuth, with no API keys to manage.
How do I query my own network from Claude or ChatGPT?
Connect the Happenstance MCP server in Claude or Claude Code, or add the Happenstance app in ChatGPT, and ask the question you'd ask in Happenstance. There's also a public API and a CLI, and it's all on the free plan. The answers come from your connected accounts and the groups you belong to, not from a company graph you have to be licensed for.
