CRM for networking
Know who you know, and reach the right one of them when you need an introduction, a referral or a reply. Happenstance builds the list from your accounts and lets you ask it questions, so the CRM part takes care of itself.

The short version
A CRM for networking keeps track of who you know and gets you to the right one of them when you need an introduction, a referral, or a reply. Happenstance does both from the accounts you connect (Gmail, Outlook, Google Calendar, Google Contacts, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram) with no data entry: it builds the list, ranks each person by how well you know them, and answers questions like "who can introduce me to someone at Stripe?" It's free. Reminders and sequences are what Nimble, Dex, folk and Covve add, and none of the four has a free plan.
What a CRM for networking has to do
It has to know who you know, and it has to get you to the right person when you need one. Tags, reminders, pipelines and mail merge either serve one of those two jobs or arrived from sales software and stayed.
Most networking CRMs handle the first job by asking you to do it. You add people, tag them, write a note after each coffee. The list is accurate for as long as you keep typing, which for most people is a few weeks.
Happenstance reads the accounts where those relationships already sit. Your Gmail knows who you email and how often. Your calendar knows who you met. LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Outlook and Google Contacts each hold a different slice of the same network, and each one connects once. After that you do not maintain anything, because the accounts keep themselves up to date whether you think about them or not.
The second job is search. Ask “who do I know at Stripe?” or “which of my connections work in climate and live in New York?” and you get ranked people back, each with the reason it matched and the path to reach them.
Which of my connections work in climate and live in New York?
Example10 people in your network work in climate from New York; four are founders.
| Person | Mutuals |

SO Samuel ObiFounder, Gridline, Brooklyn | |
HC Hana CernaClimate investor, New York |
Ranked by how well you know them
A colleague you email outranks one accepted connection request. The ranking comes from interaction history across every connected account, so results lead with the people who will reply.
“Investors I know directly”
Warm paths, not cold lists
When the person you need isn't a direct connection, the result shows who can introduce you: a friend, or a member of a group you belong to. Friends and groups share networks with each other, mutually and free.

The best free CRM for networking
Happenstance is free. The free plan is the whole product, Sidedoor included, with unlimited connected accounts, friends and groups, with usage limits on chat and on web searches beyond your network. Pro is $30 a month, or $24 billed yearly, and raises the limits. Details on the pricing page.
The rest of the category is paid: Nimble, Dex, folk and Covve each offer a trial of 7 to 14 days and no free plan. If “free” is the first word of your search, the choice is short.

What Happenstance can see
Email is read as headers only. Message content and attachments never reach our servers. Yes. Your connections are searchable only by you, the friends you accept, and the groups you join, and sharing is always mutual. Your public profile shows a constellation of named people you know by default, which you can turn off anytime. We never share, sell, or use your data to train AI models. Happenstance is SOC 2 certified and DTI Trust Level 2; the full list of what is stored and for how long is on the security page.
Frequently asked questions
What's a CRM for networking?
Software that keeps track of the people you know and helps you reach the right one when you need something: an introduction, a referral, advice, a hire. It differs from a sales CRM in that nobody in it is a lead and there is no pipeline. Most networking CRMs are lists you fill in by hand; Happenstance fills the list from your connected accounts and lets you search it in plain English.
What's the best free CRM for networking?
Happenstance. The free plan is the whole product, Sidedoor included, with unlimited connected accounts, friends and groups, and usage limits on chat and on web searches beyond your network. Nimble, Dex, folk and Covve, the paid networking CRMs in this category, each offer a trial of 7 to 14 days and no free plan.
Does Happenstance send follow-up reminders?
Happenstance is a search engine over your relationships: it finds the right person and the path to them. Reminders, sequences and per-person notes are Dex's and Nimble's job, and either one runs beside Happenstance.
How does it know who I know?
From the accounts you connect. Gmail and Outlook show who you have written to and how often, Google Calendar shows who you've met, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram add the people you're connected to, and Google Contacts adds your saved entries. Each account contributes people and evidence of how well you know them, and the ranking uses all of it.
Can I use it with a team or a community?
Yes. Friends on Happenstance share networks with each other, and groups pool the networks of every member, so a team, an alumni community, or a founder cohort can search one combined graph. Sharing is mutual and groups are free and unlimited. The largest groups make 380,000+ people searchable.
Does it read my email?
Headers only: who wrote to whom, and when. Message content and attachments never reach Happenstance servers. Happenstance is SOC 2 compliant and DTI Trust Level 2.
Does it work inside ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes. Happenstance ships a ChatGPT app, Claude and Claude Code integrations, an MCP server, a public API and a CLI, so you can ask who you know at a company from whichever assistant you already have open.
